AudioScape's website description:
A FAITHFUL RECREATION OF “THE” FET LIMITING AMPLIFIER THAT STARTED IT ALL IN THE 60’s!
The 76A is a zero-compromise, FET compression circuit recreation that remains loyal to the distinct and remarkable sonority of the “Blueface" Revision.
Aggressive, thick and startling harmonically complex; this is THE product for those desiring to add the sound of an analog legend to their outboard collection!
Our unit is everything you would expect from a lovely FET style compressor with rich, harmonic overtones and a pleasant grittiness when pushed!
EYEING THE PAST - NOS COMPONENTS and TRADITIONAL ANALOG CRAFTSMANSHIP = SONIC TRUTH!
The original's charm and unique coloration was largely due to the iron used at the input. The 76A features a Cinemag CO-12 Input Transformer (the ONLY unit in this price range that uses this amazing transformer; We have heard and tried every type of modern transformer and this is by far the most authentic sounding replica in production. Cinemag completely nailed it!
A huge part of the original unit’s sound is it’s absurdly fast attack/release time constants. This is a major area of interest for us, as many units do not faithfully represent the lighting-fast time constants of the original.
Using Vintage, NOS 70's FETs (the same FET's as used in the original unit) allows the 76A to exhibit the same blazing fast attack and release times as coveted vintage units and allows users who are intimately familiar with the real deal to feel right at home.
PERIOD-CORRECT TIME CONSTANTS, ATTITUDE and VINTAGE VIBE ABOUNDS!
The 76A is FAST. As it should be. Lead Vocals, Bass GTR, Drum Rooms, Drum Shells and much, much more all benefit from the upper-mid lift imparted by the 76A and it’s beautifully complex, program dependent / fixed threshold compression action & behavior.
And of course, the 76A features the infamous “ALL BUTTONS IN” Ratio “Mode” (and any combination imaginable therein).
Another huge distinction which is a common thread amongst our entire range of products is the ability of the operator to PUSH the 76A to the edge (and beyond!) without EVER falling apart or crumbling like a dry coffee cake. Low-End retention is excellent, even under heavy compression and is a testament to our obsessive attention to sonic accuracy and detail!
PREMIUM, PREMIUM, PREMIUM!
True to AudioScape form, only the best parts that sonically fit the accuracy of the unit are used.
Carbon Composition Resistors in the Audio Path and Precision Metal Film Resistors in the Side-Chain, a perfect marriage of sonic mojo and precision for the compression section to operate flawlessly for years to come but maintain it’s unique, vintage coloration and vibe.
A Triad Power Transformer and a Custom-Wound, Cinemag Output Transformer round out the feature-set of our 76A!
WHY SHOULD YOU BUY A 76A?
- Proudly built in small-batches from end to end on-site, in the USA by a small team of skilled assemblers. Each assembler is assigned 2 products, making them masters of their craft.
- Know where your hard-earned money is going and feel good about any purchase made from us! Every dollar spent helps feed a family, fund college tuition and supports NEW product development / R & D.
- Our margins are very tight. BUT, this sacrifice allows us full control over every aspect of the manufacturing and assembly process.
- We are able to capitalize on the USA surplus market and use NOS parts where it matters and most importantly, we are able to offer a product that is (in our biased opinions), simply a step above the competition.
