Description

1939 Bacon and Day Groton #1 in excellent condition with very minimal signs of wear for a guitar of its age. This guitar is all original with the only exceptions being a professionally repaired side crack along the lining in a structurally safe location, professional neck reset, replacement bridge, and replacement tuners with the original engraved Waverly's in the case. Built by Regal, this guitar was finished and marketed by Bacon & Day. B&D’s 1938 catalog listed the Groton 1 at $15 retail, calling it “Low in price, plain but beautiful in [its] velvety rubbed finish. Extra large frets, rich tone quality.” This guitar was constructed with mahogany back and sides, spruce top, poplar neck, gum wood fingerboard, and currently sports the aforementioned replacement rosewood bridge. 15 inch lower bout, 4 inch body depth, 1 7/8 nut width, 24 3/4 scale length, .93" thickness at the first fret, 1.09" thickness at the tenth fret and weighs 3.22 lbs exactly. This guitar comes with a non-original hardshell case.
