Oh what a lovely little instrument we have here. Take an OM (000) size body and pair it with a 12-fret neck and you have the Bourgeois OMS. The architecture of this guitar combined with the tone woods that Dana has selected make for a stunning sounding and playing small body instrument.
This beautiful 12-fret guitar has an Adirondack Spruce top, back and sides made from a magnificent set of Macassar Ebony and a Mahogany neck. It has a 25.5" string scale, 1.75" bone nut and 2-5/16" string spacing at the saddle. The body is bound in Cocobolo. Cosmetic touches include an Abalone rosette, a multi-color herringbone backstrip and black/Maple/black purfling. It has a Black Ebony fretboard with diamonds and squares inlays. It also has a slotted headstock with Ziricote overlay and side-mounted Waverly tuners with Ebony buttons. The bridge and end pins are bone and a tortis celluloid guard has been installed.
A review of my inventory will confirm that I am a big fan of Macassar Ebony-based acoustics. It is a very hard, dense tonewood that gives guitars a powerful, clear voice and it is exotically beautiful too! With it's 15-1/16" wide lower bout, it's 12-fret geometry and this tonewood combination, this guitar can pack a punch sonically. The mid and bass frequencies are strong and the overall voice is lush and rich. Please check out the brief sound sample provided.
The neck profile on this guitar is like a slightly slimmer version of Martin's Modified V and it feels quite natural and is easy to play. The guitar is setup perfectly with 12th fret string heights of 6/64" on the low E side and 4/64" on the high E side.
The only flaws of any significance on this guitar are a couple of tiny pen-tip size indentations on the top's upper bout (see photo) that you will really have to look for to find. Otherwise, this guitar is in superb condition and the frets show little to no wear. It comes in it's original TKL case, also in fabulous condition, along with the original paperwork.
Macassar is quite expensive, so a new example of this guitar would cost you over $7K. Get this lightly played, one-owner 2010 beauty for thousands less. Just a lovely, high-end, small-body acoustic from Dana Bourgeois. Make it yours!
