Description

Offered for your consideration is this spectacular acoustic archtop from Bill Comins, in this instance a Comins Concert. Like the Classic we also have in stock, this guitar was hand-built in Bill's Philadelphia shop where he has been crafting ultra-high quality archtop instruments for nearly 30 years.

This Concert is an acoustic archtop with a 25" scale length and a body that 2-1/2" deep and 16" wide at the lower bout. It has a straight grained Spruce top with X-bracing. The back, sides and neck are made of nicely flamed Maple. The neck is a three-piece design and has a sleek, low oval shape. The Ebony fretboard has a 12" radius and a 1-11/16" nut width. It is equipped with a built-in humbucking pickup with separate volume and tone controls. It has an Ebony pickguard, a floating bridge and an Ebony tailpiece. It has gold Gotoh tuners with Snakewood buttons. The cosmetics include a warm shaded finish, dual unbound F-holes, laminated wood binding and purflings on the body of the guitar and hand carved wood volume and tone controls. It is a simply decorated but exquisitely built instrument.

With it's 16" wide body and it's thinner body depth this guitar's output is a bit less than a full-size archtop, but the trade off is in vastly improved playing comfort. The Concert's voice still has that warm and creamy jazz tone players seek, but the highs and lows are a bit tighter and more focused than on a bigger jazz box. Please check out the brief sound sample provided. The guitar was played with flat tone settings through a Fender Princeton amp and with the phosphor bronze light gauge strings that I prefer for their slightly brighter acoustic tone. Flat wound jazz strings would give this instrument a warmer tone that jazz purists are likely to demand. This guitar plays smooth and easy with a fast neck that begs to be played. The more you play it, the more you will appreciate the details that Bill has put into this magnificent arctop.

This hand-built 2013 Concert is in near mint condition with no flaws of any significance other than the light signs of play and handling and a bit of fading in the pickup cover plating. The frets show no observable wear. It comes in it's original TKL case is also in superb condition.

A new Concert will cost you nearly $9K and a wait of over a year. This near mint 2013 example can be yours for thousands less and you can have it today. This is an ultra-high quality jazz guitar made by one of America's best archtop builders. Make this lovely instrument yours today!
