I'm open to trades on most of our inventory, and sometimes I take chances on guitars that are off the radar, like this Doc Fisher custom build.
Such instruments have to pass a couple tests to make it to our site. This axe plays great and sounds familiar with a unique touch, likely thanks to the wood selection. The fret work is pretty high level. The body is a Warmoth make and looks like alder. The maple neck has what looks like a Wenge fretboard.
Some Googling found little info on the builder, but I did find this:
Frank "doc" Fisher practices medicine and builds guitars in the small town of Rio Dell tucked away in the hills of far northern California.
The best solid body guitars from the 1950's are lucky accidents that occasionally rolled off the assembly line, sounding for some mysterious reason way better than the others. "Doc" Fisher guitars replicate those fine tonal qualities in every build.
The unique sound and performance of "Doc" Fisher guitars are the result of many years of experimentation with materials and builds, in collaboration with accomplished players. Working together, we "cracked the code" for vintage guitar tone.
