In the early 1960s, Gibson began developing a new model to compete with Fender. Car designer Raymond H. Dietrich designed the guitar, and the 'Thunderbird' was born, the first Gibson solid model with a thru-neck and beautiful curves, inspired by the Explorer.
This Epiphone Thunderbird Pro IV inherits the traditional looks and through-neck construction, and is built in our Indonesian factory with an active preamp.
The Thunderbird Pro IV has excellent sustain and a powerful sound with dedicated humbucker pickups!
The bridge has a new structure and a more modern arrangement.
The 7-piece walnut/maple neck has a natural oil finish, giving it a different feel from conventional Thunderbirds.
The active EQ allows for subtle sound creation, and the sound is clearer and more manageable than the commonly-imaged Thunderbird sound.
