1962 Epiphone B4B Newport Bass
This Epiphone equivalent of the much loved Gibson EB-0 bass weighs just 7.10 lbs. Symmetrical double cutaway solid mahogany body with soft rounded edges. One-piece mahogany neck with a really fat nut width of 1 11/16 inches, a short scale length of 30 1/2 inches and a thick profile. Brazilian rosewood fretboard with 20 original jumbo frets and inlaid pearl dot position markers. Black faced headstock with inlaid "Epiphone" in pearl and three-layer balck over white bullet-shaped truss-rod cover secured by two screws. Individual two-on-a-side tuners with cloverleaf metal buttons. Single black plastic-covered PAF pickup with four pole-pieces and a huge output of 31.20k. Three-layer white over black plastic pickguard with three screws and Epiphone 'epsilon' inlaid in gold foil. Two controls (one volume, one tone). Black plastic bell-shape control knobs with metal tops. The potentiometers are stamped "134 "134 6140" (Centralab October 1961). Original combination "wrap-over" bridge/tailpiece with 'mute' assembly. Complete with the original metal hand rest cover secured by two screws and the original 'curved' ebony thumb brace mounted on the pickguard by two screws. The guitar has been expertly and beautifully re-finished in Coral Pink by master luthier Scott Lentz. The original serial number "74950" has been re-stamped in black on the back of the headstock. This super rare bass is in mint (9.50) condition. Housed in a later three-latch rectangular black hardshell case with black plush lining (9.25).
This is an extremely rare Epiphone model. We have only seen three others in over forty-five years of collecting. This single-pickup Newport model is basically an Epiphone EB-0. It features a symetrical double-cutaway body, an inlaid pearl 'script' headstock logo, a three-ply white pickguard, and all nickel hardware.
An absolute must for any serious Bass collector. (#1816)
