A beautiful early 1964 Fender Custom Esquire. 12/63 Body Date. 3OCT63B Neck Stamp.
A Very Light Weight 7lbs without the bridge cover. Bridge Cover Included.
In the 1960s it was played a lot, stripped of the sunburst finish, and routed for a humbucker ala Keith Richards.
Then into the closet for 35 years.
Then I got it 10 years ago, and 5 years ago I had Jim at Noll Guitars begin the restoration. Jim is an artist at this type work.
The rout was fixed neatly and perfectly, see pictures. Then exactly correct re-routing of the neck pickup and wire cavity was done. So the body was put back to factory correct 1964 for a Custom Esquire. (All Esquires were Telecaster bodies with no neck pickup installed, and had the Pick Guard with no neck pickup hole.)
There was enough of the original finish in the bridge pickup cavity, neck pocket, input cup cavity, and the control cavity so that the original color finish could be recreated on the entire body. Came out awesome. See pictures.
The neck was never altered, so a simple re-fret was all that was needed to bring this beauty to life.
The original Pickup and Pick Guard and controls, input cup, bridge, knobs and switch tip were re-installed, and the magic of this gorgeous, light, and resonant Custom Esquire became obvious.
