Back in the day, the Precision Bass was designed to solve problems upright bass players had with their instruments: bulky size, insufficient volume, and intonation challenges. The Precision Bass (combined with a Fender amp) could solve all those problems and you could easily get exactly the right pitch every time, hence the name “Precision” bass.
What was lost, though, was the smooth legato feel and expressiveness of an upright bass. In 1970 Fender introduced a fretless version of the Precision bass to appeal to players who missed the qualities of a fretless instrument. Fretless electric basses remain a part of the bass world with many renowned players choosing fretless as their primary instrument.
Here we have a super clean, unmodified 1978 Fender Precision Bass with its original hardshell case and hang tags. Maple body and neck with a beautiful rosewood fingerboard. All original and comes with both the pickup and bridge covers as well as its original hardshell case. Did we mention it’s super clean. With the exception of a little buckle worming on the back, it looks like it just came fresh from the factory. What a great bass this is!
