1996 Fender Japan Order (DK-161) JG66 Jaguar Black w/Matching Headstock CIJ, Offset, Limited, RARE

Up for grabs is a highly rare Fender Japan “Order” JG66 Jaguar, featuring a non-catalog black finish with a matching headstock, complemented by a red-tortoise shell pickguard and a vintage-spec 7.25” radius rosewood fretboard.

Despite bearing the “Crafted in Japan” label, this shop order (DK-161) Jaguar with its rare CIJ N-Serial number displays several characteristics typical of the final batch produced at the FujiGen factory. Notable features include brass shielding in the cavities, suggesting that this may have been one of the last guitars made at that factory.

Japanese-made Fenders have a well-deserved reputation for excellence, and this Jaguar is no exception. The craftsmanship and attention to detail rival those of its USA counterparts, if not matching them outright.

Sourcing Japanese-made Jaguars is becoming increasingly challenging, even within Japan itself. Their growing popularity among musicians, paired with the high level of Japanese craftsmanship, has made these models highly sought after and collectible. This particular model was produced in limited quantities, intended only for the Japanese market, and is rarely seen outside of Japan.

Condition-wise, this Jaguar is in excellent shape and fully functional, with no breaks or repairs. It does exhibit some play-wear, reflecting its use but not abuse. The body has several paint chips on the lower bout, primarily on the side, which are not immediately noticeable. Additionally, there are numerous scratches and surface marks on the body, all of which contribute to its played-in appearance and have been documented in the photos.

The neck and fretboard are in great condition, showing only a few minor indentations that don’t affect playability, ensuring smooth movement across the fretboard. The frets show some wear but have plenty of life remaining and have been lightly dressed to maintain optimal performance. The stock electronics and pickups are original and function flawlessly, as does the original hardware. The bridge has been upgraded with Mustang saddles, enhancing the guitar's performance and stability. The guitar weighs 8.7 lbs.

It’s been expertly cleaned and setup by Ben of Beej Guitar Repairs with a fresh set of 10-46 strings
