Fender released the Jazz Bass in 1960 and it has been a staple of music history ever since.

Early models are highly sought after, particularly the earliest "stacked knob" models, which had concentric pots for volume and tone control. This 1961 is one of the earliest 3 knob versions made, which fender began making in the very month this bass was assembled.

This is a one-owner piece that has never surfaced in the market until now. Included in the beautiful brown case is the original hang tag (with the model and serial number present) and the original bill of sale, detailing the payment schedule and the trade of a Danelectro towards the purchase of the bass. I'm not sure what was up, but the Danelectro was given a great trade value for the period - $73.08! The receipt does call out a Precision bass, not a Jazz Bass, but it also shows the serial number which are on the Jazz Bass and the hang tag.

Also in the case are the string mutes, nearly always removed and generally lost.

The bass is in excellent condition as far as we're concerned. It isn't so clean that you won't want to touch it - it was played - but it is 100% original and has enough wear on the back of the neck to give that feel that just makes one weak.

Frets are in very good shape for the age of the instrument and are not in need of replacement. The neck is true and sets up perfectly. Pickup output is right on. The pickguard hasn't shrunk as much as you might expect, though it does grab on to that neck pickup pretty well.

All in all, this is a pretty mind blowing piece that will be equally at home in the hands of a player or in the collection of someone searching Fender's finest.
