The Jazzmaster — the first Fender guitar with a rosewood fingerboard — was designed for the jazz market, but while jazz guitarists never adopted it, it was soon a hit with surf guitarists. The Custom Shop model Fender 1962 Jazzmaster Journeyman Relic is a wonderful nod to the offset original and all the surf, rock, punk, postpunk and alt/indie music it has contributed to on stages far and wide.
This guitar wears a perfectly worn Journeyman Relic lacquer finish decorated with a Super Faded Aged Fiesta Red color, complete with a two-piece select alder solidbody with plenty of wear and tear visible that gives it the appearance of years on the road. With a riftsawn maple neck and a '62 Jazzmaster C-profile, a 9.5" radius round-lam rosewood fingerboard and twenty-one medium vintage-style frets, this guitar plays like a dream.
The Custom Shop hand-wound Jazzmaster flat magnet pickups are wound to vintage spec and produce a distinct mellow tone. Vintage wiring includes a three-way toggle switch and two separate volume/tone controls with a lead/rhythm switch. The RSD J-bridge with compensated brass saddles and vintage-style tuning machines matching the bone nut keep everything period-accurate and stable. With authentic appointments that let it stand out from the period it came from, the Fender Custom Shop 1962 Jazzmaster Journeyman Relic truly is a masterpiece guitar — available today from Replay Guitar Exchange!
