For me the ultimate tweed Fender amp is the ultra-rare “Vertical Tweed” TV Princeton.
I consider it the more refined version of the pedestrian diagonal tweed variety.
If James Bond had a practice amp, it would be vertical tweed. “ Tweed. Vertical, not Diagonal” James would say.
This is the last Princeton from my personal collection of everything from Woodies to Princeton Reverbs: I’ve saved this one till the end.
Made in 1948. The caps and speaker are fully original. Single Slot screws, just like a Broadcaster and early Esquires. The original Mohair grill cloth is still dark and smooth. The handle is in great shape. Serial # 986 on the tube chart. Nothing speaks early Fender like these early single slot tweed amps. We may not have a Broadcaster to plug into it, but this is the next best thing!
This could be either a museum piece and kept in original condition, or have the cord upgraded, & used as a player.
It works perfectly as it is, with the bite and added brightness from the tone control that for me, puts the tweed Princeton above the Champ any day.
The output transformer is connected to the speaker, and I did not remove the chassis to take photos. If a serious buyer would like photos taken of this I can do that. Some edge wear on one corner, with overall wear to the tweed from years of use. it will need a new cord as the original is in brittle & dangerous condition and its age requires no returns.
Not a mint specimen, but a wonderful Fender tweed!
