What’s cooler than a well played, first year of production Stratocaster with all the original components? We’re proudly showing off this 1954 Fender Stratocaster in its original Sunburst finish that once belonged to Western Swing guitarist Bill Wesley! Not only do we have photos of Mr. Wesley playing this guitar, we even have a handwritten letter from him talking about the history of the guitar! He bought it at his local music store in Houston, Texas after waiting half a day to see it presented. Bill begged for them to let him take it home because he had a gig later that night. Bill goes on in his letter to say that he played this guitar with many country music greats including Hank Lonklin, Moon Mullican, Floyd Tillman, and The Ernest Tubbs Band.
The neck has been played in to such a comfortable feel, with every edge being rounded over after decades of playing. The body finish itself is also in good shape, with just some light marks on the front, and a touch of buckle rash on the back. All of the Bakelite plastics are present and free of any cracks, and you may notice the pickups have flathead adjustment screws! The neck has seen some overspray to preserve the decal and remaining finish. This is truly a historic piece with an epic bit of provenance as well!
Overall Condition: 7.5, body wear, buckle rash, neck wear
