The 1954 Gibson L5 CES represents a pivotal era in electric guitar manufacturing, embodying the luxury and craftsmanship of Gibson's mid-20th-century archtop designs. This particular model has been modified from its original specifications, including the addition of Patent # pickups and a Patent # Gibson ABR-1 bridge. It shows evidence of past alterations, such as filled holes from a previously installed P-90 pickup and a professional routing for humbucker pickups, indicating a history of customization to suit the player's needs. Unfortunately, the guitar is missing its original pickguard, which has resulted in damage to the pickup covers due to gassing - a common issue with certain materials used in vintage guitars.
