Fender used the serial numbers you see on the headstock here for a number of years, and the misconception out there is that the beginning letters and numbers represent the year. For instance, this guitar's serial number starts with S9, and common belief is that these denote the year 1979. The guitar is in fact a 1980, defined by dating on the pickup , neck stamp and pots. The numbers are hard to read on each, but they are there.

The color of the sunburst finish is pretty cool on this one. The edges are light, a bit more brown than black. Older Fenders would fade like this, but this guitar came from the factory this way - you can see this under the pickguard where the finish has been hidden from possible fading.

The guitar is all original with no repairs or issues. Frets have been leveled but are in great shape. They are a little smaller than later Fenders, a trait of this era.

Overall the condition is excellent with signs that someone enjoyed playing it, but there are none that reveal abuse.

It is a really good player with outstanding tone. The pickups are from the end of the gray bottom era, prior to 80s changes that really didn't produce great pickups.

Original case included.
