Moe's Guitars, Our philosophy: If we wouldn't play it, we wouldn't sell it; it's that simple.
History
Dan Smith 1982 Fender Stratocaster just in. A client of ours rescued this from a storage. The integrity of the instrument is 100% spot on. With the exception of the trem arm (might not be original) the instrument appears to be 100% original without a solder joint broken. The pots date to 1982 as do the neck and body. There are no paint cracks at the neck pocket. A Feather Weight at just 7 lbs 1 oz it is a pleasure to play.
Frets, Neck & Set Up
The neck is straight and true with a functional truss rod. The radius is 7.25. These early Strats provide a bit more real estate for vibrato since the fretboard edges are not rolled. The frets show less than average wear for its year. With the exception of the 15th fret. All fret wire measure 0.708-0.709 tall on my fret gauge.
The instrument was just professionally set up by Phil D'Angelo (former under study of Tommy Doyle) Phill is one of the best luthiers you can find in the NYC Metro area. The action is low (maybe too low if you bend) and it plays well up and down the neck. The Trem is clamped down ala Clapton style.
Cosmetic Condition
The instrument is extremely clean without rash or worming. When held under a light I count 5 pen head size dings on the face . One by the out put jack and 4 by the upper arm cut. Being black when held under light you will see swirling from being polished. The fret board has a tiny wear mark visible at the 9th fret.
Hardware/Electronics
All hardware and electronics work as they should. It is the first Strat I've come across that none of the height adjustment screws weren't stripped :)
Tone
It Quacks like SRV on the first position. The Second position is a Dark out of Phase Tone. Position 3 is Strong and Robust. When driven it is reminiscent of Deep Purples "Mistreated" the 4th position is Clapton's Solo Album all the way and the 5th you can hang with Dick Dale surfing.
