This 1974 Fender Telecaster Custom is in very good vintage cosmetic condition. This instrument shows moderate to heavy signs of play wear throughout (see photos). The body has numerous dings and pick scratches throughout and the finish has worn significantly on the edges of the body. The neck profile on this Telecaster is on the slimmer side but retains a very nice feeling rounded shape that is incredibly comfortable. The fingerboard has been professionally refretted and there is a significant amount of finish wear on the fingerboard particularly at the 3rd fret on the treble side. The medium jumbo fret wire shows only the slightest signs of play wear and has loads of the life left. This instrument was professionally refretted and set up by Glaser Instrument Repair in Nashville, Tennessee. This guitar plays great up and down the fingerboard with low action and very good intonation. Both pickups in this guitar are original and appear to have their original windings. The potentiometers, capacitor and switch also appear to be original. There are visible potentiometer codes - one reads 1377337 indicating that this component was made by CTS on the 37th week of 1973 and the other pot codes date to the 40th week of 1974. The serial number and neck stamp both date to 1974. This guitar sounds incredible, in my opinion. The bridge pickup delivers a very woody yet biting Telecaster tone that is perfect for anything from Country to Rock and the Wide Range humbucking neck pickup is big, round and warm sounding. All the electronics are in perfect working order and there is no extra noise or scratchiness. This Telecaster is also exceptionally lightweight coming in at just 6lb 6oz making this Telecaster a perfect candidate for live performance. This Tele is very resonant and loud when played unplugged. This Telecaster Custom is housed in its original Fender hard shell case that is in great cosmetic condition with all three latches working. If you are after a pretty righteous vintage Telecaster that plays, sounds and looks fantastic, then this 48 year old Mocha Brown machine may be the one! A gem of a guitar shipped safely and promptly from our little shop in Clarksville, Tennessee, to your front door.
