Description

Summary: One of three updated Telecaster models launched in 1972, the Telecaster Custom was the first Telecaster to feature a combination of a single-coil pickup at the bridge and a Wide Range humbucker at the neck. This particular Tele has been refinished early in its life with a beautiful red/orange lacquer. The finish looks great with a few chips and checks in it and paired with the original pickups and a nice worn in neck is hard to beat.

Body: Single cutaway Telecaster refinished in a red/orange lacquer finish.

Neck: The one piece maple neck on this guitar feels really nice and worn in. It has 21 frets, black dots, 25.5” scale length, bullet truss rod and a 1.55 nut width. The neck is classic ‘70s style with three bolts and a neck tilt screw.

Pickups/Hardware: This Tele has the original wide range humbucker in the neck position, original Telecaster bridge pickup, two volume, two tone controls, three way pickup selector switch, string-through- body-bridge with replacement individual barrel saddles, Grover replacement tuning keys, chrome hardware, black pickguard.

Cosmetics: This old Fender is in pretty good shape – there are some normal signs of wear like pick scratching on the pickguard, various dings & nicks on the body, lots of wear on the fretboard, holes on the back of the headstock where the original tuning keys were – all wear is consistent with a vintage guitar that has been played but loved.

Playability: This Fender Tele’s playability is excellent with low action and a new set of 10’s. The original pickups are strong and full of character; the bridge delivers snappy twang, the neck humbucker is big and warm while remaining articulate and together is like ‘70s Fender magic.

Modifications: The body has been refinished, the saddles have been replaced, the original tuning keys were replaced with Grover tuners and pickguard is not the original but is era correct from the ‘70s!

Weight: 7 lbs, 11 oz.

Case: This beautiful Tele ships in a vintage 1960’s or 1970’s Fender hard-shell case. The case is in pretty good shape overall but it does have a few dings and slight delamination on a few parts but all the latches work, the handle is in fine shape and the case performs as it should.
