Description

Offered for your consideration is this exceptional transition era Fender Telecaster, serial number 174437 which was built in 1966. Except for newer frets, nut and a rewound original neck pickup, this guitar is all original. If you are looking for the best playing and sounding investment-grade vintage Tele you can get, please read on!

This marvelous Tele sports new 6105 frets, a bone nut and the original neck pickup has been rewound by Tom Brantley Rewinds (with the associated solder joint touch-ups). Otherwise, this guitar is completely original and in excellent + condition. There is no date stamp on the neck, but the tuners and the transition headstock logo decal, with two (2) patent numbers and no DES number, confirm this to be a neck built in late ’65 or ’66. The neck plate serial number is consistent with a 1966 build as well. The original cloth wiring and unaltered “mud” circuit remain intact. The original Kluson "double line" tuners are a bit stiff but are fully functional. This guitar weighs just 7.0 pounds and is nicely balanced.

The still vibrant transparent blonde finish shows the wood’s grain upon close inspection. The finish remains in excellent condition except for a few areas of paint loss on the body edges. The lovely medium depth neck (.838" - .928" depth, 1st and 12th frets) has the optional maple "cap" fingerboard with no “skunk stripe” and is in fantastic condition.

Despite the many incredible boutique Telecaster-style instruments one plays, there is still nothing that can compare with a real vintage Fender Tele. The old wood and electronics just speak to you. Check out the brief sound sample included below. This guitar has the original "dark circuit" still in place for the neck pickup, but the middle and bridge positions sound super to my old ears. It has been setup superbly and plays with little to no effort thanks in part to the slightly larger than original fret wire. Includes the original case, "ash tray" bridge cover, vintage cord and strap.

I would venture to guess that less than 10% of the Telecasters from this era that are still in circulation are in better condition than this extremely well-preserved example. Get yourself a particularly great looking, playing and sounding vintage Telecaster with this exceptional example!
