Offered is yet another killer vintage and mostly all original Telecaster. This example was built in 1967 before CBS managed to mess this model up too much.
This guitar, serial number 202890, has an ash body, a maple neck and a lovely dark rosewood fingerboard. It has a neck date of July, 1967. It weighs in at 7.8 pounds on my scale. Everything on this guitar appears to be original save for the pickup switch tip and the input jack, with both of these original parts included in the case, which also is original. It has an oval 'C' - shaped neck common for this period with depth measurements of .830" at the first fret and .925" at the twelfth frets. The original frets have been leveled and still play quite well, although I would plan on a fret job in the not too distant future. The electronics are completely original and the factory solder joints untouched. The pots date to October of 1966 and the original "bass circuit" is still in place when switched to the neck position. The original single coils remain strong and crisp sounding. It has the much better Kluson "dual line" tuners which pre-date the later "F" style models which Fender started using soon after this guitar was built.
The condition of this guitar is well above average for guitars of this era. The original blonde lacquer finish remains in fabulous condition save for a few chips along the body edge, a bit of finish checking and some light staining from the case lining. Also, some of the gold has faded from the headstock logo decal. All in all, this guitar remains in remarkable condition. It comes in it's original G&G case.
Playing this guitar is like time travel for me. Even the very best boutique guitars don't quite do it for me like these old examples. Please check out the brief sound sample included below. Keep in mind that the tone in the first position is quite muddy from the original 'bass circuit' that is still in place.
Guitars like this Telecaster are investments as much as they are tools for making music and they have proven to be very good investments over the long haul. And of course, few guitars are better than a great Tele for making music. Make this vintage Tele yours - you will be very glad you did!
