1986 Fender Japan “Order Made” TL52 '52 Telecaster Reissue Butterscotch Lacquer, 2-Piece Ash Body, Flame Maple Neck, US Pickups, w/HC, MIJ, FujiGen

Available for sale is an early FujiGen Factory-made 1986 A Serial “Order Made” Fender Japan TL52 '52 Telecaster Reissue. This guitar features a striking 2-piece centre-seam ash body paired with a breathtaking flamed 1-piece maple neck. It comes with a Fender-style aftermarket rectangular hard case.

Aside from an upgraded Real Life Relics aged official Fender bakelite pickguard—replacing the cheaper aftermarket tortoiseshell variant it came with—the guitar appears to be all original and 100% fully functional, with no breaks or repairs. The serial number and pot dates confirm its 1986 build. This "A" serial guitar came after the famous “JV” series and showcases outstanding craftsmanship.

Our TL52 is a unique blend of specs. While it features Japanese pots and a pickup switch, it also boasts a lacquer-finished 2-piece centre-seam ash body, a heavily flamed 7.25” radius medium C 1-piece maple neck, and U.S. pickups—specs typically found on higher-end models, particularly the TL52-120 “Extrad.”

This mix of features is only possible through Fender Japan’s “Order Made” program from that era, with no catalog models matching these specs. This guitar likely originated from a small store order run or, more probably, as a one-off, as we haven’t found any other examples online with similar specifications.

It also features a bakelite pickguard, dome knobs, and flathead screws, all true to the classic ‘50s Tele aesthetic.

Condition-wise, our Tele shows light cosmetic wear with some surface scratches, but nothing severe or wood-bearing. The stunningly flamed maple neck offers a smooth, uninterrupted feel with slick playability, enhanced by a professional light fret dressing. The stock electronics function perfectly, and the US Fullerton pickups deliver fantastic tone when plugged in. This guitar is also acoustically resonant and well-balanced, making it a joy to play. This one leans toward the heavier side, weighing in at 9.92lbs.

It’s been expertly cleaned and setup by Ben of Beej Guitar Repairs with a fresh set of 10-46 strings
