Here we have the cleanest, all original, 1959 Fender 5F2a Princeton.
The amp shocked me at first glance. I knew I had to bring it in to put next to our other brilliant tweed amps.
When it arrived I was even more stunned. The amp is nearly perfect. There is only the slightest of wear on the tweed. The grille is perfect. There is a little surface swirl on the control panel, but the screen printing is perfect. The original handle is in place.
Not a solder has been touched in the circuit. The speaker is original and has the original cone in place.
It would be advisable to update filter caps if your intent is to use this amp regularly. We can do this work for a buyer if wanted, but we're going to leave the amp as is, in its all-original state.
The speaker is a little tired, as is to be expected, but it does sound good. The way to go if you want to use the amp regularly would be to install a modern speaker or recone the original one. In the end, all of these 50s speakers will need to be reconed - I just don't see such a change as destructive to the value of a vintage amp - but again, I'm just gong to leave this as it is and let the next owner decide what to do.
