Being the "guitar snobs" that we are here at Capital Guitars, we typically buy only Fender Custom Shop guitars or an occasional vintage Fender for our inventory and pass on the "lesser" models. However, this USA-made GE Smith Tele was so good and in such superb condition, we had to have it for our inventory.
The GE Smith Telecaster was first introduced in 2007 and this guitar was part of the initial run. It is based on a 50's style Telecaster with a few touches specified by the artist. It has a very deep, U-shaped Maple neck with depth measurements of .98" at the first fret, increasing only slightly to .99" at the twelfth fret. As you would find on a real 50's Tele, it has smaller frets and a 7.25" fret board radius. GE had Fender modify the bridge plate so that the single coil pickup could be mounted directly to the body wood as you would find on a vintage lap steel guitar. The unique fretboard inlays GE chose are also reminiscent of a cosmetic detail from a 40's era lap steel instrument. The electronics include two vintage output single coils, master volume, master tone, a three-way switch and modern wiring. The finish is nitrocellulose lacquer, in glorious transparent blonde on this lovely example. This particular guitar weighs in at 7.6 pounds and is nicely balanced.
If you like Nocasters and/or just big-necked Telecaster-style guitars, you will love this marvelous GE Smith Tele. You can really dig-into the meaty U-shaped neck and superb playability of this guitar rivals that of many pricier Fender Custom Shop guitars that I've played over the years. The vintage style single coils really rip tone-wise; just listen to the short sound sample provided. Yee haw!
Besides being a great Telecaster, this beast is also in collector-grade condition. It appears to have been purchased in 2007 and put away for the next decade. The overall condition of the guitar is near mint. The frets are flawless and the factory-applied protective film still adorns the pickguard. The only flaws of any type that I can see are a couple of lacquer checks on the body and even these are extremely hard to find (see photo). The original tweed case is in similarly fantastic condition. It comes with it's original paperwork and accessories.
The GE Smith Telecaster is no longer in production and few of the existing examples are likely to be in the collector-grade condition that this beauty is. Make this amazing and collectible GE Smith Telecaster yours today!
