G. Chanot, the tailpiece inscribed Chanot exhibition d bass, entered in the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1878, English Section, Class 13, catalog no. 1: "A Four-stringed Double Bass. Grand model of Stradivarius (violin shaped), by which means it is enabled to bear the weight of the strings without that weakness of tone so often met with in the ordinary Viol di Gamba-shaped double Basses, at the same time carrying out the original design of Stradivarius, with the same power and beauty of tone," length of back 1270 mm, scale length 1130 mm, with Mooradian gig bag.
