Description

Summary: Chet Atkins came to Gibson with the idea for this guitar - he wanted a solid body guitar that would not feed back on stage but still had a great acoustic sound. What Gibson came back to Chet with was this, the CEC model. This Gibson was made in 1988, is in good shape, has just been setup and restrung by our in house guitar tech and ships in a brown Gibson hardshell case.

Body: Single cutaway, solid mahogany body with cedar top, brown and cream binding and ebony (black) finish.

Neck: The mahogany neck has a nice profile more like a standard acoustic but it still has the classical style flat fingerboard and wider 1 13/16” nut width. The frets are a larger size than most classic guitars, it has a nice rosewood fingerboard, 25.5” scale length and black finish on the neck.

Pickups/Hardware: It has the original Gibson active piezo pickup with volume, tone, gold plates, rosewood bridge and gold tuners with pearloid buttons.

Cosmetics: This Gibson is in fine shape but there are a fair amount of light scratches and scuffs all over the body with some dings and dents here and there, mostly around the edges. There is a spot on the side where the pink case material has stuck to the finish and there is a crack in the finish by the output jack at the edge of the binding. The most notable blemish is by the fingerboard extension where it looks like there was some touch up work done (see photos).

Playability: Our in-house guitar tech has just inspected, setup and restrung this guitar with a new set of nylon strings. The neck is straight and the action has been setup low and comfortable. The frets are in great shape with no major grooves or divots from use and it plays beautifully up and down the fingerboard with no dead spots or choking out. The nut is slotted a bit low so there is a bit of buzz when the E A and D strings are played open.

Modifications: The black strap lock style buttons are likely aftermarket.

Weight: 9 lbs, 1 oz.

Case: This guitar comes with a brown Gibson hardshell case and we will ship it professionally packed and fully insured!
