c. 1984 Gibson Citation Natural Blonde - One-Off Employee Built Kalamazoo-Made!

c. 1984 Gibson Citation Natural!

ON-HOLD... Here is a very unique and beautiful example of a Gibson Citation that was built in Kalamazoo. The guitar looks to be an employee-build who likely made it for himself or as a custom-order for someone around the time that the old Gibson Kalamazoo plant closed. It has a few specs that are not usually seen on this model. The tuners are the more conventional Schallers, the pickguard has no control knob, the pickup was changed to a Benedetto floating, the guitar was refretted by the former owner Wolfe Guitars (it was Jay's personal guitar), and the prototype label was added at some point. The new price on these now would likely be over $30K, so here is a great value option.

The guitar was sold many years ago by another well-known dealer (whom I consulted with) and the label was not present at that time. The guitar is definitely an original Kalamazoo-built Gibson Citation, the finish is definitely original Gibson from the period, and the guitar plays and sounds wonderful. It's a great opportunity to get one of these very unique and highly-prized archtops at an attainable price. The guitar is in very good condition overall. The guitar has a few light scrapes and dents. There is some light checking/crazing on the binding. The refret was done with gold EVO frets and Plek'ed. The guitar comes with a very recent original Gibson Citation heavy-duty hardshell case.

Weight: 6 lbs. 2 oz.
