Description

Offered for your consideration is Gibson Custom Dickey Betts Aged/Signed SG #2 which was part of a very limited run of instruments produced to honor the artist and the Allman Brothers. This is one of the just 75 guitars which received exacting aging by Gibson and were personally numbered and signed by Dickey himself. I've read that that Dickey kept the prototypes and production guitar #1 for himself. It true, that would make this is the very first example released for sale to the public.

Like the original, this SG has a one-piece mahogany body with mahogany set neck neck and a total weight of just 6.5 pounds (6 pounds, 8 ounces). The neck is a 60's SG shape, with depth measurements of .830" at the 1st fret and .900" at the 12th fret and feels relatively wide and substantial in your hand. The rosewood fretboard has a 12" radius, big "banjo" size frets and a 1.6875" wide nylon nut as Dickey's did. The Tune-o-Matic ABR-1 bridge has nylon saddles like the original as well. The pickups on Dickey's guitar were key to it's special sound, so this recreation has been given a special set of Gibson Custom Buckers with Alnico III magnets which have been produced to original PAF specifications, but with slightly irregular coils just like the original. As with Dickey's guitar the stock tuners have been switched out to enclosed nickel tuners for better on-stage tuning stability. With this model, Gibson did everything that could be done to replicate Dickey's iconic SG.

My first humbucker guitar was a late 60's SG, one that I played through my college years, so this is a model that I appeals to me on a very personal level. I have also bought and sold lots of Gibson Historic SG reissues over the years which were fabulous electrics. This guitar is as close as you can get to the real thing. It's easy to understand why Gibson made just 75 of these as the aging is so realistic. But not only does it look authentic, it also plays and sounds like the real thing and it even stays in tune!

This was a collector-owned instrument and shows no evidence of play beyond the original aging. The frets are flawless. It comes in it's original case along with the Certificate of Authenticity and ships in the original Gibson shipping carton.

With it's early serial number and that only 75 of these made for worldwide consumption, this guitar is likely to be a good investment. Make this fabulous SG yours before I succumb to the urge to hold on to this rare piece!
