1948 Gibson ES-300 (AS-IS)

We are offering this 1948 Gibson ES-300 in AS-IS condition. This instrument appears to have been in a fire. The peghead, peghead face and tuners have been scorched and the finish in this area has bubbled up and peeled. The body finish is exceptionally dark (I find the color to be pretty attractive!). The tuners on this instrument are later, unoriginal Gibson Deluxe units that must have been replaced before the fire. One tuner is missing and the others are pretty much just melted. There is a 4” piece of body binding on the bass side top of the guitar that is missing (see photos). The output jack and plate are replacements. The output jack hole in the body has damage and there are 8 small holes drilled in that area which I have photographed. The original dog ear P-90 pickup works but the cover has melted and is misshapen. Both potentiometers work and the original tall clear top plastic knobs remain. The tailpiece and bridge both appear to be original as well. The frets on this guitar show heavy signs of play wear and the original nut has been cut very low. The fingerboard shows some sinkage and divots as well. This guitar is housed in a chipboard case which is also in fair condition (broken hinges). Other than that, this guitar is top notch (haha!). This ES-300 could be fixed up to be a particularly cool instrument. Personally, I would probably just refret it, put some functional tuners on it and pick this thing the way it is, but it could be restored further if desired. This guitar has character in spades and with some love it could tell few more stories. A gem of a guitar shipped promptly and safely from our little shop in Clarksville, Tennessee, to your front door.
