Where did all the 59 ES-335's go? They went to OK Guitars, that's where. I've got three at the moment and they won't last. For a player, there is no better year. For an investor, there is no better year. For a collector...ok you get the idea. 59's are great. I play one myself. But this one is special. I don't think I've had half a dozen flame top 59's (or any other year for that matter). I sold this one a while back and I was happy to buy it back. It's a great one. It came out of Nowhere, Kentucky and has had only three owners. Gorgeous flame top 59 ES-335. It has a couple of issues that are worth mentioning. Because 59 ES-335's predate the use of a plain G string, it is impossible to intonate a set of 9's. The bridge position was optimized for 12's which was the most common string gauge in 1959. A set of 10's puts the G string saddle as far back as it will go and it has to be turned around as well. So, it is not uncommon for the bridge to be moved slightly toward the end pin-usually about 1/8". The original post holes are under the thumbwheels so they aren't visible. That gets you enough travel to play with 9's and have spot on intonation. This 59 has had that done. It also had Schaller tuners at some point but they are gone and a proper set of single line single ring Klusons are back on. If you can live with these issues, I've got your guitar right here. It's a monster player.
