This is a stunningly clean (9.5/10) 1962 ES-335 in cherry. '62 ES-335's seem to get lost in the shuffle a bit. The popularity of 64's (thanks Eric) takes a lot of attention away from these sleeper guitars. Most 62's have two PAFs whereas 63's and 64's usually have patent number pickups or one of each. I know, an early patent is the same as a late PAF but wouldn't you rather have that $1000 sticker? Dot necks are great but by late 60, the neck got really slim and is prone to stability problems. By 62, the neck shape had picked up some bulk and the back bow and truss rod crack issues pretty much went away. This red 62 is in near mint condition. Both pickups are PAFs and it is a wonderful player. The neck is medium/slim but is notably larger than the blade neck of 61. There are no breaks or repairs and no wear and just one ding near the binding on the lower bass bout. No checking, no rash. The only issue is the bridge was moved back 1/16" to improve intonation. If you play with 9's, this is a vital mod. These guitars were made to use a wound G string. A plain G string from a set of 10's will intonate (barely) with the saddle reversed and moved all the way back toward the tailpiece. With 9's, you run out of room. This allows you to properly intonate a set of 9's and even 8's. The mod is invisible as the two small additional holes are under the thumbwheels. Mint original Lifton case.
