Summary: Like the Les Paul, the ES-335 stands as one of Gibson's all-time most iconic models. The ES-335 is a semi-hollowbody guitar which means that it has a solid block of wood running through its center with hollow wings on either side. This construction style maintains the open tone of a hollowbody while helping to reduce feedback. This Gibson was made in 1999 and is referred to as a Dot 335 since it bears the 50s style Dot inlays. It has a 60s style neck profile with full 1 11/16” nut width, gloss Ebony finish and ships in its original hardshell case.
Body: Semi hollow body with maple construction, center block to reduce feedback, f holes, gloss ebony finish and bound top and back.
Neck: The mahogany neck has a slimmer 60s carve and 1 11/16” nut width as well as a bound rosewood fingerboard and pearl dot inlays. 24.75” scale length.
Pickups/Hardware: It has ‘57 classic humbucker pickups, original from the factory, 2 volume, 2 tones, 3 way toggle, nickel hardware, ABR1 tune-o-matic bridge, stop-bar tailpiece and Grover Roto-matic tuning keys.
Cosmetics: This 335 is in good used condition but shows a fair amount of normal wear. There are some pick scratches on the body and pickguard, small dings around the output jack and arm rest area, a few minor scratches around the body, some light finish crackling around the headstock decals and binding in some places-most notable is a spot on the treble side edge where the fingerboard meets the neck. You can feel a slight lip where the neck wood, binding and finish settled at different rates throughout its life but it neither affects playability nor raises structural concerns. There is a small finish chip at the end of the headstock and a notable ding in the neck around the 8th fret. The ding is about ¼” across but it does not impede playability in my opinion. Overall, this guitar is in fine players’ condition with no breaks, cracks or visible repairs and it plays and looks amazing.
Playability: Our in house luthier has just inspected, set up and restrung this guitar with a new set of 10s and it is playing beautifully with low action and a straight neck. The frets are in great shape with no major grooves or divots.
