Summary: This 1972 Gibson ES-335 TD is in fantastic vintage condition with some normal play wear but no structural issues, visible repairs or modifications. It features the walnut brown finish and rare Gibson embossed pickup covers which were a short lived feature to the early 70s. It has just been setup by our in house guitar tech with low action, a straight neck and restrung with a new set of 10s. The original frets are in great shape with plenty of life left in them and they play great all the way up and down the neck. It ships in its original Gibson hard-shell case with purple plush interior.
Body: Semi hollow 335 with maple laminate construction, maple center block, binding which has yellowed with age and a translucent brown walnut finish.
Neck: Mahogany neck with very comfortable profile that doesn’t feel too skinny like some late 60s profiles but also not too thick, it has the volute and a 1 9/16” nut width. The bound rosewood fingerboard has small block inlays, original frets which are still in great shape, original nylon nut and 24 ¾” scale length.
Pickups/Hardware: The 2 original humbuckers have chrome Gibson embossed covers, chrome plated non wired ABR1 bridge, trapeze tailpiece, 3 way toggle, 2 volume, 2 tone, tophat knobs and Gibson Deluxe tuning keys with double-ringed green keystone buttons.
Cosmetics: This Gibson is in great shape for its age, shows some normal wear from casual use over the years but was obviously cared for very much. There’s some light buckle rash on the back of the instrument but it doesn’t go all the way through the finish, there are some chips and dings around the tailpiece, wear around the corner of the heel, fair amount of minor dents on the sides and some wear through the finish on the neck on the volute and behind the first position. The top is in great shape with no real wear besides some pick scratches and small nicks and dings. The chrome plating has worn off the saddles a bit and there’s a crack in the black plastic humbucker ring.
Playability: This guitar plays beautifully up and down the fingerboard with no dead spots or choking out of notes. It has just been set up in-house with low action, straight neck and restrung with a new set of 10s.
