Get your inner Keef on with this one. It's a 59 ES-355 that has been refinished long ago in black at the Gibson factory. A factory refinish makes a difference to some buyers and not to others. There was a 60 345 that was a factory refinish for sale for over $100K maybe 2 years ago. I don't think he got it but that's a far cry from what i'm asking. There was a smile crack that was repaired long, long ago and is not going to be a problem going forward. Neck profile is late 59. Serial is not totally readable A32xxx but the FON is "S" so it's a 59 build in any case. Pickups are early patent numbers-same as a late PAF but for the sticker. Covers have been off and the leads have been extended. I opened one to check the windings and they are original and the leads are both black. What's original/correct: Grover pat pending tuners, truss cover, knobs, pickup rings, switch tip, bridge (saddles and screws are newer repro. Bridge is slightly shaved on the treble side. Bigsby is correct for late 59. Harness looks to be original and adapted for mono with the Varitone. Varitone ring paint and numbers are worn away. The chicken head knob is correct. What's not correct: The guitar was drilled for a stop tail and the Custom Made plate was added. It is a vintage one, not a repro. A few screws have been changed, it's been re-fretted, had a new nut installed and may have had the neck binding replaced-hard to tell for sure. Gibson often did that when refinishing back in the 60's. Case is original brown with pink Gibson badged. Playability and tone are excellent.
