The year was 1958, a time of excitement for space exploration and the successful launch of America's first satellite rocket, the Explorer. Gibson formed the Modernistic Guitars project to develop guitars in original shapes, and the three guitars that were born were the Explorer, Flying V, and Modern. The original Explorer was released in 1958 with 19 pieces, and in 1959 with only 3 pieces, which were soon discontinued. The Gibson Explorer 2017 is a reissue of this 1976 Explorer, with a high-quality mahogany body and mahogany set neck construction, featuring a distinctive mahogany sound with warmth and firmness in the midrange. Despite its unusual shape, the guitar is very easy to play both sitting and standing, and in fact has excellent playability. This is a traditional Gibson electric guitar that has been used by all kinds of musicians, both old and new.
