2003 Gibson F-5 Fern Master Model Sunburst

Excellent condition featuring scroll body with two points, multiple bound top and back edges, spruce top with two unbound f-holes, elevated multiple bound tortoiseshell grain pickguard with metal mounting bracket, ebony bridge, gold string through tailpiece with The Gibson engraving, figured maple back and sides, figured maple neck, bound ebony fingerboard with scooped fingerboard extension and abalone dot inlays starting at the fifth fret, multiple bound dark rosewood headstock overlay with The Gibson logo and decorative fern inlay, bone nut, vintage style engraved open back tuning machines with pearloid (plastic) buttons, internal K&K pickup with endpin jack, gloss nitrocellulose lacquer sunburst finish, gold plated metal hardware and black rectangular TKL hard shell case.

This 2003 F-5 Fern, signed by Danny Roberts, is a great example of the model. With plenty of volume and rich classic F-5 tone, this example excels as a bluegrass instrument. The mandolin has been played and does show signs of use with some pick marks, dings, a small repaired top crack, and moderate finish checking on the top. The top crack is difficult to photograph and was repaired by Gibson in 2018 (the repair receipt from Gibson is included). The set up is fantastic and the mandolin plays great up and down the fingerboard showing hardly any fret wear. The instrument also sports an added K&K pickup with endpin jack adding to its versatility as a player’s instrument. If you are looking for a well played Fern with a great sounding pickup, this is quite a nice example.
