Description

It’s rare to find a single-owner guitar from 1963, but this stunning example fits the bill, complete with a truly heartwarming story.

This all-original Gibson Hummingbird, crafted in 1963, is a Natural finish (non-Sunburst) version with the optional Adjustable Bridge—a great feature for its time. With an X-braced construction and two tone bars, it delivers a rich, familiar tone, perfect for folk strumming, fingerpicking, or fireside jams. It has enough headroom for fiddle tunes and plays beautifully with light gauge strings, offering clear intonation, great projection, and a fully functional adjustable bridge and truss rod. No buzzes, no rattles, just pure, balanced sound.

This guitar remains untouched by repairs or modifications. We’ve polished the original frets to a lovely shine, showing only minimal wear from years of gentle playing. Though the guitar has never had a neck reset, it is also not needed. The guitar's action and setup are superb - with generous saddle height and comfortable, low string action. We've also found the intonation to be very accurate - which isn't always the case with this era of Gibson Acoustics.

The story behind this guitar adds to its charm. The original owner sold his first Hummingbird to buy an engagement ring, but his wife surprised him with this beautiful replacement on Christmas morning. For over 60 years, it has stayed in the same family and the same Missouri home.

Now, for just the second time in its life, this extraordinary guitar is looking for a new home. We’re certain its next owner will treasure it just as much for many years to come.

Very slight lifting to fingerboard binding near nut.
