Mahogany Jumbo (17 ') by Gibson from 1940. The instrument is partially restored, the sunburst top was refinished, as well as the back of the three-piece maple neck. The rosewood fretboard and the frets have been renewed, the bat-wing bridge replaced with an exact copy of the original, as well as the tiger-stripe pick-guard. Back, sides and the black veneered headstock with the inlaid script-logo still have the original finish, play-wear, nicks and dings are visible. A hole in the top, probably drilled for a pickup, was expertly closed. The neck has a pretty fat C-profile, plays very well, action is excellent. For its size, the body is surprisingly lightweight and delivers, due to the long scale, which is particularly suitable for open tunings, a full, warm bass, woody rich mids and brilliant highs. Last but not least responsible for this is the beautifully fine-grained Honduras mahogany used for back and sides, which was probably harvested in the 20ies of the last century and is no longer available in this quality.
