Description

This is an all-original 1963 Gibson J-200 in Sunburst. The guitar is a one-owner, and the owner played it in Greenwich Village during the height of the Folk Music Renaissance, and interacted with such luminaries as Dave Van Ronk, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, etc. I am helping to sell the guitar for the owner's daughter.

The Jumbo-sized J-200 is easily one of Gibson's most iconic acoustic guitars. In its history, the J-200 has been marketed as the Super Jumbo, the SJ-200, and has even earned the moniker, "The King of the Flattops." In addition to its huge size and massive tone, the J-200 is distinguished by its array of high-end cosmetic details including pineapple-style inlays and a mustache bridge. The width at the nut is 1 11/16. Serial # is 62xxx.

Jimmy Page used a 1963 J-200 to record the following Led Zeppelin songs:

⦁ Your Time Is Gonna Come
⦁ Black Mountain Side
⦁ Babe I'm Gonna Leave You

Other historic artists who have recorded with the J-200 include John Lennon, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Pete Townsend, John Prine, and Elvis Presley.

The guitar is an unmolested original, but will need a neck reset. Currently the action is about 2x as high as factory spec, with 14/64 at the Low E and 12/64 at the High E (12th fret). It has typical wear and some dings on top, but overall it is a beautiful guitar with a really striking flamed back and neck - much nicer than what I have seen on other J-200's.

Sold "As Is." Comes with a newer TKL Hard Case.
