1966 Gibson J-50 ADJ

This 1966 Gibson J-50 is in very good to excellent vintage condition. This instrument shows signs of play wear and age throughout including some light finish checking, some small bumps and dings, a few pick scratches and a longer scrape on the back of the body. Otherwise, this guitar is very tidy and is free of any cracks or repaired cracks. The top of the guitar is very flat, the bridge is flush to the body, the bridge plate is in excellent condition and the neck angle is optimal. The original saddle has been adjusted to a low/medium height and the action is excellent. The neck profile on this guitar is that of a late 60s Gibson medium rounded shape that tapers thicker toward the 12th fret and has a 1 9/16” nut width. This neck feels excellent in the hand and is very easy to play. The rosewood fingerboard is very clean and the original frets show no major dents or divots, have a medium height and have tons of life left in them. This instrument has been set up here in our shop and it plays fantastic up and down the fingerboard with low smooth action and great intonation. There is no buzzing or fretting out anywhere on the fingerboard - just a superb player. This guitar delivers that absolutely magical tone that vintage Gibson flat tops are famous for. The tone from this example is very even - it delivers a dry, thumpy, warm tone with plenty of volume, mid range and punch. This guitar is a bit more “lively” sounding than a lot of these mid to late 60s ADJ model Gibsons that we have sold through the years. This example has tremendous cut and clarity and it gets a little closer tonally to a D-18 while still retaining that classic Gibson dryness and thump. This would make a seriously fantastic songwriting and recording instrument. Crack free, all original examples of these guitars that are in outstanding cosmetic and playing condition are getting harder to come by these days and this one is a true standout.
