When I was 12 years old back in the mid 60's, my guitar teacher was an old jazz player who hated rock and roll and wouldn't teach it. I learned a lot of useful stuff (I can play a 13th chord, can you?) but jazz never took hold with me. He played a big old Gibson and I asked him what it was. "This here's an L5. Best damn guitar ever made". He was appalled when I showed up for my lesson with a new Fender. Anyway, here's a 1966 L5 CES. It appears to have been played but very well cared for. This were very expensive guitars in their day and were usually treated with a great deal of respect and care.  All original, of course with light wear- The gold shows any significant wear and there is some light player wear along the bass side of the neck. And a few little dings in the upper bass bout. Frets show no wear but are not original. Gibson quality was still very high through the 60's even with the massive increase in sales. The high end archtops were still the showpieces of the Gibson company and this shows in the workmanship and fit and finish. It's a beautiful guitar. It plays very well and shows a lot more versatility than I would have expected. It can even do that horrible rock and roll the kids are so crazy about. Noise, if you ask me. Original case.
