1981 Gibson Les Paul Heritage Series Standard - 80 Elite Tobacco Sunburst

Very good condition featuring single cutaway mahogany body with brown stain finish, two-piece highly figured maple top with Tobacco Sunburst finish and cream binding (thin binding through the cutaway), two original Gibson Tim Shaw humbucking pickups with cream plastic pickup surrounds, two volume controls and two tone controls with original gold bonnet knobs, three way toggle switch with cream Rhythm and Treble ring, single ply cream elevated pickguard with chrome metal bracket, Nashville tune-o-matic fully adjustable bridge, stop tailpiece, one piece mahogany neck with brown stain finish, bound ebony fingerboard with pearloid trapezoid inlays starting at the third fret, Gibson open book peghead, black peghead face with pearl inlaid Gibson logo and screenprinted Les Paul Model logo, multi-ply black truss rod cover engraved Heritage Series Standard - 80 Elite, three per side Gotoh tuning machines with metal buttons, serial number, Made in USA and production run number 0604 impressed in the back of the peghead, single ply brown plastic electronics control cover plate and switch cover plate, two metal strap buttons, nickel plated metal hardware, and unoriginal TKL rectangular hard shell case. This guitar weighs 9lb 2oz.

This 43 year old Gibson Les Paul oozes coolness and both looks and plays spectacularly. The medium chunky one piece mahogany neck feels insanely good in hand and has a very nice classic rounded profile with a 1 11/16” nut width. This instrument has a professional headstock repair that was extremely well done and is completely solid (see photos). The ebony fingerboard is clean as a whistle and the original medium jumbo fret wire is in outstanding condition. The frets are tall and free of any dents or divots. The tuners are a nice set of Gotoh replacements. A professional set up was performed on this guitar and it plays like absolute butter with low smooth action, no dead spots whatsoever and spot on intonation. This guitar shows some signs of play wear here and there but nothing that is a deal breaker - there are few small dings and scrapes here and there that I have photographed. The top on this guitar is beautifully figured and the color is stunning. The top carve on these Les Pauls is deeper and has more of a belly in the center which looks incredible. The maple top has lots of motion in light. The original humbucking pickups sound phenomenal. The bridge position pickup has a gnarly, clear and woody biting tone and the neck pickup has a very warm growl. The potentiometers date to the 45th week of 1980, all solder joints look original and untouched and the original internal metal electronics cover is present. This Les Paul is exceptionally resonant and loud when played unplugged and is just an overall excellent instrument. If you're looking for a tremendous sounding and playing Gibson Les Paul, this may be the one!
