Description

2000 Gibson Les Paul R9 fitted with a set of PAF humbuckers! A quality '59 reissue producing tons of sustain, natural resonance, and of course badass LP tones from the PAFs. Great condition with minor dings and scuffing from transport but all in all displays really light use. An excellent player with a feel as close to the real thing as you can get with a vintage neck profile that plays great. A killer LP with historic Gibson PUs! Includes original hardshell case.

Check out the feature from our luthier Tyler in the ECG Newsletter:

"The Les Paul “Burst” is the undisputed heavyweight champion of vintage electric guitars and seems to be growing in popularity with every passing year. As long as this is the case, the workingman’s pursuit for Burst-like tones will remain as frenzied as ever. It’s generally accepted that an earlier 1950s conversion with period parts is as good as it gets but may run in the $30-$50k range. A high-end luthier-built replica is also a good option, but replicating the legendary PAF is a nearly impossible task even for the most adept pickup manufacturer. An increasingly popular option as of late has been to acquire a quality modern Gibson reissue and outfit it with vintage pickups, as is the case with this beautiful R9.

This 2000 Gibson 1959 reissue is from the relatively early days of the company’s Historic Division, and is technically almost vintage in its own right. A beautifully flamed maple top and super dark rosewood fretboard are subtle but look right at home among original 50s examples. The crowning feature of this guitar are two original double-black PAFs, swapped in for the stock ’57 Classics. Needless to say, these pickups bring the guitar to life in a way only old humbuckers can. While this isn’t exactly a vintage Burst, it’s certainly the closest you can get for under $20k."
