Description

Offered for your consideration is this vintage Gibson LG-1 built in 1963. If you'd like a small bodied vintage blues machine, this cool piece may be of interest to you.

The LG series was built between 1942 and 1977 in various iterations. This LG-1 has a Spruce top and a Mahogany body with ladder bracing and a 14-1/8" wide lower bout. It has a 24-3/4" string scale and a 1-11/16" nut. It has a 14-fret Mahogany neck with a Brazilian Rosewood fretboard and dot inlays. This 1963 model has the styrene reverse belly bridge that Gibson used between 1962 and 1965. I've read that some of the guitars from this era had problems with bridge lifting, but this guitar shows no sign of this issue.

This guitar has the vibe of something Robert Johnson might have played. This is an acoustic guitar in perhaps it's most basic form and the one is woody and oh so natural. Please check out the brief 'Soundcloud' sample included below. It plays quite easily considering it's simple roots and it has a vibe and tone that is so good that it could easily become your favorite couch buddy guitar.

This baby has seen lots and lots of play over the past 57 years, but remains in good condition. It shows lots of scratches and dings, but it's flaws are only cosmetic with no structural issues and the neck angle remains excellent. It appears all original, except for one or two of the bridge pins. The original brown chipboard case had disintegrated beyond use, but the guitar will ship in a nicer 70's era case that fits the guitar perfectly.

I'm selling this guitar for my friend and physician of some 30 years who retired recently and headed south to be close to family. Ted is a very special guy who has kept me healthy all these years, despite my many bad habits. That in itself is a miracle. But despite a practice that had him working incredibly long hours, he was always improving himself one way or another; working on yet another advanced degree, advocating for the proper treatment of animals on social media, or acting in a local theatre presentation. And all the while, Ted had a way of keeping all those around him laughing their asses off. Ted is one in a million and will be missed by many. Thanks for everything Ted. I hope this guitar ends up with someone as cool as you!
