Excellent condition featuring double cutaway mahogany body, single ply tortoise shell grain pickguard, one single coil pickup, one volume control and one tone control with black plastic reflector top knobs and output jack mounted to the pickguard, wrap around stud tailpiece with “compensated” “lightning bolt” bridge top, set mahogany neck, Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with pearloid dot inlays starting at the third fret, bone nut, Epiphone Olympic peghead shape with black peghead face and gold Gibson logo, multi-ply black and white plastic bell shaped truss rod cover, three per side Kluson Deluxe single line tuning machines with white oval plastic tuning buttons, serial number impressed into the back of the peghead, two metal strap buttons, nickel plated metal hardware, Cherry stain finish and an older unoriginal rectangular hard shell case. This guitar weighs 6lb even.
This 1964 Epiphone Olympic Melody Maker is in excellent cosmetic condition. This guitar has been professionally refinished to an incredible looking Cherry stain finish. The workmanship of the finishing is top notch and it looks absolutely killer. This refinish includes the peghead face and a Gibson logo was applied. This guitar is crack free and show no signs of breaks or repairs under a black light. It does look like maybe the strap button was ripped out at some point but everything is super solid.
This guitar has an exceptionally chunky neck profile with a 1 11/16” nut width. This neck feels ridiculously good and is very comfortable. The fingerboard of this instrument has been professionally refretted with medium jumbo fret wire. The frets show light play wear but are in fantastic shape and have tons of playing time left in them. The Brazilian rosewood fingerboard is nice, clean and free of divots. This guitar has been professionally set up and it plays outstanding up and down the fingerboard. This guitar is a serious player - one of the very best playing Melody Makers I’ve come across in a while. The bridge studs are original and are completely straight without any leaning. The tailpiece itself is a Gibson replacement. The original tuners work great. The tuner buttons are aged replacements. The pickguard is original, is very flat and is crack free. The pots have been replaced with high quality CTS units and the pickup is a Seymour Duncan Melody Maker P-90 single coil (the Seymour Duncan box is included). This pickup is made to retrofit into the original rout so no modifications were made to the body for the installation. The body routs are factory. This guitar sounds like a million bucks. It’s got a particularly nasty bite through an overdriven amp that can easily be tamed with the volume knob. If you are looking for an absolute killer sounding vintage Epiphone/Gibson solidbody that plays like a dream and needs nothing, then don’t pass this thing up!
