The ES-355 was released from the end of 1958 to 1959 as an advanced model of the ES-335, featuring binding on the head and neck, diamond inlays, gold parts, ebony fingerboard, block position marks, and other features. This semi-acoustic guitar has been used by famous musicians such as BB King, Chuck Berry, Keith Berry, Noel Gallagher, and Shinichi Ikuta.
This model, manufactured at the now-defunct Memphis factory, uses a deep joint to transmit the string vibration directly to the body, bringing out a high quality sound. It also features a thicker neck with a grippy feel. The warm, boxy sound of a semi-acoustic guitar with the sustain and attack of a solid guitar can be obtained by positioning the center block, making this a popular guitar for a wide range of music.
