Summary: The Gibson S-1 is a solid bodied electric guitar. The S-1 was introduced as part of Gibson's attempt to break into the single-coil bolt-on neck guitar market, which was then dominated by Fender. It began production in mid-1974 and debuted in 1975 with endorsements from Carlos Santana as well as Rolling Stones guitarists Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards. The body of the S-1 is similar to the Marauder. It is made of a 3-piece Mahogany Les Paul Jr-like body with a bolt-on Maple neck with a Flying V headstock. It is adorned with a Schaller made "Harmonica" style bridge and the standard Gibson stopbar tailpiece. The pickups are controlled by a combination of a pickup selector and a "chicken head" rotary switch. The rotary switch has four positions which allows for different selections of pickup combinations. Because of its unusual pickups and unique wiring scheme, this guitar is capable of a wide range of very distinctive sounds.

Body: 3-piece Mahogany with a Natural finish.

Neck: Maple with a Maple fingerboard, 24.75” scale length, 1 11/16” nut width, 22 frets, pearl dot inlays, Flying V headstock.

Pickups/Hardware: Three single coil pickups, Grover tuning keys, harmonica style bridge/stopbar tailpiece, two-way pickup selector/chicken head rotary switch/master volume & tone controls, 5-ply black pickguard.

Cosmetics: This guitar is in good vintage condition. The fingerboard shows signs of wear on the first few frets (See Photos Please). The back of the neck is clean, and the frets are low and flat. The pickguard has surface scratches. The body has few nicks, dings, and scuffs. The headstock has a bit of noticeable wear, and the face of the headstock has a ring around the G string where a string was cut too long, and it scratched the finish. Overall, this guitar plays great and sounds amazing.

Playability: Our in-house guitar tech has inspected, setup, and restrung this instrument with a new set of strings. The neck is straight, the truss rod is fully functional, and the action has been setup low and comfortable. The frets are in great shape with no major grooves or divots from use and it plays beautifully up and down the fretboard with no dead spots or choking out.

Modifications: Grover tuning keys have been added.

Weight: 8.67 lbs.

Case: This guitar ships in a chipboard case, professionally packaged, and fully insured.
