DESCRIPTION
Up for sale is a super player’s grade 1960s Gibson SG Special in a natural refin. If you are after a minty vintage SG Special this is not the guitar for you. If you are after a great player that is priced lower than a new Gibson Custom Shop please read on. This instrument has been refinished in a natural finish, it was originality cherry. The Serial puts this guitar at 1970 but other appointments such as the pickguard style, headstock shape, tuners and lack of a volute suggest it was built earlier. There is evidence of an old and stable headstock repair and strangely the neck does not binding. It is unclear if the binding was removed at the time of the refin or if it never had binding to begin with. There is some buggering around the neck joint leading us to believe this either had a neck reset or repair at some point, before or after the refin. There are additional holes on the face of the body left-over from the original tremolo tail-piece. There is also two additional screw holes on the back of the headstock. The P90s are non original as well as the wiring harness. The bridge is a modern compensated bridge (original is included). The double line Kluson tuners are vintage as is the pickguard. This guitar plays well with decent action. 1 9/16th nut width, neck measures .83 @ 1st and .99 @ 12th fret. Cool player’s grade vintage Gibson!
