Description

Regardless of the fact that George Harrison and Eric Clapton rocked a '64 SG Standard, that model year was clearly a standout for SGs in general. The clunky side-pull vibrato had been replaced by the dependable Maestro Vibrola. The neck profiles had increased in size, resembling the profile found on 1959 Les Pauls. And the balance, playability and look of the SG seemed to come into its own. For all those reasons, the Custom Shop Gibson 1964 SG Standard W/ Maestro Vibrola Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aged was born.

Masterfully-built in America, the 1964 SG Standard features a one-piece solid lightweight mahogany body with a Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aging finish treatment, pairing with the lightly aged hardware and simulating decades of light play wear — all rounded off with a Cherry Red color. The solid mahogany neck boasts an authentic '64 medium C-profile, with a smooth and easy-to-play Indian rosewood fingerboard on top that is adorned with twenty-two authentic medium jumbo frets dazzled with cellulose nitrate trapezoid inlays.

Along with the Maestro Vibrola and the chunky neck profile, it has all of the hyper-accurate vintage specs one could possibly want — original construction methods, a real red dye finish, chemically-recreated plastics, replica electronics, and more. Two unpotted Custombucker Alnico 3 pickups are installed, complete with two volume and two tone controls that have Black Beauty capacitors for a roaring vintage tone — all controlled by a three-way toggle switch. It's the ideal SG for those who want to take the vintage taste and dip it into the modern era.

The accuracy, authenticity and amazing attention to detail is inspiring as always — the Gibson Custom Shop 1964 SG Standard W/ Maestro Vibrola Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aged has all of the unique character, vibe and feel of an original example from the Gibson Golden Era! As always, feel free to contact our store for more details, or with any questions.
