Gibson / Thunderbird IV
In the early 1960s, Gibson began developing a new model to compete with Fender. Car designer Raymond H. Dietrich designed the guitar, and in 1963, Gibson released the 'Thunderbird', a solid model with beautiful curves and a through neck for the first time in Gibson's history, while using the Explorer as a motif. It was discontinued in 1969 and became the 'Thunderbird'. Production ended in '69, and in '76, it was reintroduced as a commemorative model for the bicentennial of the founding of the United States of America. After that, it was discontinued again in '79, but in '87, the reissue of 'Thunderbird IV' was started in response to users' requests for reissue.
This model was reissued in 2004
